The Future of Keyboards. Source: www.cultofmac.com

“The best thing about the future is that it comes only one day at a time” – Abraham Lincoln

Evolution is defined as the gradual development of something, especially from a simple to a more complex form. This doesn’t only happen in animals, but more so when it comes to technology.

Take the PC for example- the processors, memory, display screens, and batteries are getting better and better. The speed at which these technologies are evolving is just amazing.

And keyboards are no exception, although these little devices seem to have little room for improvement, the following list shows how much their design and capabilities have improved in so many awesome ways. Here are ten of these cool keyboards.

1. Microsoft Arc Keyboard Limited Edition

Microsoft Arc Keyboard

The first thing you’ll notice with this keyboard from Microsoft is the shape. It is ergonomic and curved according to our hands’ natural arc to lessen the strain when typing on a flat keyboard for long hours. Hopefully, this will save a lot of people from developing carpal tunnel syndrome, so this one is definitely worth a try. It can be used on both Windows (XP and above) and Mac OSX v10.4.x (up to 10.7). It works on a 2.4 GHz wireless frequency with an effective range of up to 30 feet.

2. Wooden Keyboard by Orée

With everyone getting concerned about sustainability and caring for the environment, French design group, Orée developed the wooden Orée Board. A Bluetooth capable wireless keyboard that is made from a single piece of maple and walnut. It looks elegant and warm, plus, it works on any PC, tablet, and even on smartphones.

3. Optimus Maximus

Optimus Maximus Keyboard

This is a fully customizable keyboard that lets you assign letter sequences any way you want. Every single key on this keyboard is a stand-alone display screen that shows the current function assigned to it. What’s even better is that you can use any character set (numerals, special symbols, HTML codes, math functions, and even website shortcuts) and assign it to a certain key to help you work faster and easier.

4. Apple Wireless Keyboard

5. Logitech diNovo Edge

Logitech diNovo Edge

This keyboard from Logitech is probably one of the most beautiful and well-designed keyboards in the market. This keyboard is laser-cut from a semi-translucent piece of black Plexiglass and set into a brushed-aluminum body. Typing on this keyboard doesn’t produce any sound, nor will it hurt your fingers thanks to its Perfect Stroke key system. It is rechargeable (which takes about two hours) and each charge lasts an amazing two months of battery life. It has a built-in, touch sensitive, trackpad and volume slider so there’s really no more need for a mouse.

6. Optimus Tactus

Optimus Tactus Keyboard

This keyboard is still in the concept stage, but we’re betting it will be a reality within the next year or so. It’s basically a big touch screen display that can be programmed to display any key or image (or even videos), so the possibilities here are endless.

7. TechieTrends Wireless Flexible Keyboard

This is a neat wireless keyboard by TechieTrends that is suitable for people on the go. It’s dust and water proof, and it can be easily rolled-up for easier storage and transport.

8. Swift Key Keyboard App

Swift Key Keyboard App

Although this isn’t a physical keyboard, we included this here because it’s a smart one. SwiftKey is a predictive and corrective keyboard app for android phones. It saves you time by learning the words that you use a lot (like names for example) and autocompletes it for you. It also adds spaces automatically, so typing on your android phone should be a go faster with the help of this app.

9. Steampunk Keyboard

What else is there to say about this AWESOME-LOOKING, custom-made keyboard? It’s the perfect blend between the old and the new. A classic keyboard reborn in this modern era gives off the impression of exquisite class and extreme attention to details. It’s fabricated from brass, has a touchpad in the center, and comes with a soft burgundy wrist pad that is removable for cleaning.

10. Virtual Laser Projection Keyboard

Virtual Laser Projection Keyboard

This laser-projected virtual keyboard is probably the most futuristic keyboard that we are featuring here. It is the size of a Zippo lighter so you can take it with you anywhere. As you might have guessed, this uses laser beams to project a full-size, full-capacity keyboard.

So there you go boys and girls, welcome to the future of the keyboards! Hopefully, KeyRocket would be there with all its shortcuts and more features to keep your computer productivity up ;)
